Rubber Gym Flooring

Rubber gym flooring is an essential piece of any commercial or home gym. At Fitness Equipment Ireland, we carry a wide selection of high-quality flooring available to fit your home or commercial sized gym needs.

Why do you need gym flooring?

Gym flooring is an essential piece of any gym for the following reasons:

Cleanliness: For any gym, keeping the workout area clean is a top priority, either for yourself at home or for your guests. Gym flooring provides an easy to clean surface that is highly durable and designed for long-term use.

Protection: One of the many purposes of gym flooring is to protect the underlying surface from the heavy weight of fitness machines as well as the constant slamming of gym equipment, such as slam balls, for high intensity workouts. A piece of gym flooring can be easily replaced, but damage to the underlying floor can be a costly expense in both time and money.

Shock Absorption: A thick, rubber gym floor increases the comfort of the gymgoer by providing shock absorption qualities. For people that are constantly engaging in plyometric and high intensity exercises, a high-quality, shock absorbing floor is necessary. Especially when performing exercises that require you to jump, you are not going to want to be constantly landing on a hard surface that does not absorb your impact properly. A rubber gym floor can help prevent injuries by partially absorbing the force caused by high intensity workouts.

What thickness is best for gym flooring?

We measure the thickness of our gym flooring in millimeters (mm). A common thickness for gym flooring is between 15 mm and 25 mm, with 20 mm being a popular choice. However, the best thickness will depend on the type of activity that will be performed on the floor, as well as the level of impact it will be subjected to. For example, thicker gym flooring is generally recommended for heavy weightlifting or other high-impact activities, while thinner flooring may be sufficient for activities with less impact. If you are unsure what flooring best suits your needs, don't hesitate to contact us and we can get a detailed analysis of the load, usage, foot traffic, and other factors to determine the best thickness for your specific gym flooring needs.

Can gym flooring be laid on top of my current floor?

It is possible to install gym flooring on top of an existing floor, depending on the type of flooring and its condition. However, it's important to consider a few factors before deciding to install gym flooring over an existing floor. First, the existing floor must be level, stable, and in good condition to support the weight of the gym flooring. Any cracks, holes, or uneven surfaces should be repaired before installing the gym flooring. Second, the existing floor should be clean and free of dirt, dust, and other debris to ensure proper adhesion of the gym flooring. Third, the existing floor should be able to support the weight of gym equipment. Heavier equipment, like weights, may require a stronger base. If the existing floor is suitable, gym flooring can be installed using a floating or glue-down method, but it's best to consult with a professional installer and/or gym flooring expert to determine the best installation method for your specific scenario.

Do you have to glue down gym flooring?

You do not have to glue down your gym flooring, however, it is recommended in commercial spaces. Glue-down installation provides a more durable and stable surface for the gym flooring, especially for heavy-use areas like weightlifting or cardio zones. It can help prevent the flooring from shifting or moving, which can improve safety for gym members and staff. The glue-down installation can also help to reduce noise, especially if the gym is located on an upper floor or in a multi-use building. Lastly, it makes it easier to maintain and clean the gym flooring, as it eliminates gaps between the flooring and the surface. If you are in the market for gym flooring going into a home-use space there are a few other factors that you need to consider. If you plan on using the space for other activities it might be a good idea to simply lay down the tiles without glue. Therefore the tiles can be moved whenever needed and the room can be multi-functional. Each tile ranges from 10-15kg in weight so they do not move easily. If you fill the floor space correctly you can have a rubber gym floor with no gaps and no glue rquired.
