Once you have made the decision to build a home gym you have to figure out what room you want the gym to be in and the layout of the actual gym itself. When it comes to picking a room it may seem best to put the gym in the shed, but when it’s cold and raining walking outside to workout in a cold shed doesn’t seem that appealing, so when picking the room ensure that it’s not in a place where outside factors can make you not want to work out that day. Another important thing when considering what room to pick is that it has enough space for all the equipment you want while not being too cramped and not tripping over equipment while working out. When it comes to designing the layout of the gym it’s best to try and give each type of equipment its own space. For instance dumbbell racks can fit flush against a wall and the space in front of the rack can be used for the dumbbell workouts, and afterwards you can use that same space for exercises such as yoga or stretching. For cardio equipment it all comes down to space, if you are in a larger room then you can go for a larger piece of equipment like a treadmill, rower or cross trainer. If you are building the gym in a smaller space then it makes more sense to get a smaller machine like an exercise or spin bike. When you are designing the gym one great way to save space is to use the walls for storage. You can mount a couple of shelves or wall hooks and use that to store your resistance bands or yoga mats and not take away any space that could be used for actually doing the exercises or other machines. If you have any questions about designing a gym or are interested in purchasing equipment for your home gym the trained staff at Fitness Equipment Ireland are happy to help.
